Run System File Checker: sfc /scannow

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected computer files and replaces incorrect versions with the correct Microsoft versions. Follow the steps below for your operating system to run through this.

In Windows 10:

  1. Tap or click the Start Menu Button and type CMD.
  2. Hold down on, or right-click Command Prompt and then tap or click Run as Administrator.
  3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow, and press Enter.
  4. When the computer scan is complete, try to install Office again.

In Windows 8 & 8.1:

  1. Press the <Win+X> keys together to bring up the Power Users menu.
  2. Swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt and then tap or click Run as Administrator.
  3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow, and press Enter.
  4. When the computer scan is complete, try to install Office again.

In Windows 7:

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator.
  2. At the Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
  3. When the computer scan is complete, try to install Office again.
